CBT

Once you have a provisional licence you can take your CBT. (Compulsory Basic Training.)  When this is completed you can ride a 50cc moped on the road.  When you turn 17 you can ride machines up to 125cc without further training.  A CBT certificate lasts for two years.  Click here for more information on CBT.

125 Test

Pass your practical test on a 125cc machine and you can lose the ‘L’ plates, carry passengers and ride on motorways.  You can also ride any bike up to 33 bhp. This includes a larger capacity bike fitted with a restrictor kit.  After 2 years this restriction is lifted and you can ride any capacity bike.  Extra training will be needed to prepare for this 125 test.  Click here for more information on our 125 course.

Direct Access (DAS)

You have all the options available to anyone 17 or over (see above) plus the option of taking the test on a bike of more than 46.6 bhp (typically 500 cc).  It’s effectively the same test as you’d do on a 125 - just taken on a bigger bike.  If you are over 21 this is the option we would normally recommend.  Pass the direct access test and you will get a full unrestricted licence to ride any capacity bike and carry passengers.  Click here for more information on DAS courses.
